The Town offers a program of adapted leisure - Les Incroyables Chromosomes - for youngsters aged 6 to 17 living with disabilities as well as their siblings aged 6 to 17!
Adapted leisure period
Activities, such as adapted workshops, animations, trekking, outdoor games, tobogganing and swimming, are offered:
- Mostly on the last Saturday of each month with some exceptions (see calendar below)
- From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- At the nature park Les-Forestiers de Saint-Lazare (2800 Chemin Lotbinière)
Activities, which take into account the different disabilities, are overseen and supervised by specialized educators, support workers and animators for the participants’ siblings.
Eligible participants and costs
- Priority is given to Saint-Lazare residents.
- If places are available, non-residents are admitted.
- Activities are offered at no cost to participants.
Opening the participant’s file
To assess the child’s disability(s), needs and interests, and the number of siblings, aged 6 to 17, accompanying the child, the parent must complete the Participant Questionnaire at www.ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/en/ic.
Ad hoc registration
The parent must register his/her child (and siblings if applicable) fourteen (14) working days prior to participating to a session at www.ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/en/enligne to allow the team to plan human and material resources. The child is not required to participate to each period. The child is not required to participate in each period.
In the event of cancellation
If the child living with a disability is not able to take part in the activity, the parent may cancel the same morning, however a reasonable notice will allow other children that may be on the waiting list to take part in the activities.
Note if the child living with a disability cannot participate, nor can the siblings. The program aims to foster the integration of children living with a disability and should not be seen as “daycare services” for their siblings.
